Mark DeMonte focuses his practice on assisting clients through all phases of complex federal and state litigation, including assessment of potential claims and defenses, discovery (including managing the costs of e-discovery), pretrial dispositive motion practice, trial, post-trial, and appeals. He has counseled clients on prelitigation issues and represented plaintiffs and defendants in state and federal courts in cases involving state law breach of contract claims, tortious interference, allegations of trade secret misappropriation, restrictive covenants, allegations of fraud, claims arising from state and federal False Claims Acts, and legal actions founded upon the Fourth, Fifth, and Fourteenth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution.

Prior to joining Jones Day, Mark served as a law clerk to the Honorable Robert L. Miller Jr., Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana. During this time, Mark assisted in the judicial administration and resolution of complex civil and criminal litigation involving federal and state laws, including class actions and cases transferred for coordinated or consolidated pretrial proceedings by the United States Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation.

Mark is a graduate of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) Rate School, and he dedicates a portion of his practice to assisting utility clients in regulatory proceedings before the Illinois Commerce Commission and civil litigation before Illinois state and federal courts. He also assists in the counseling of those utility clients on compliance with state laws and regulations.
