Lawyer Overview
Mandy Childs practices complex commercial litigation in state and federal courts throughout the country. Her experience covers a broad range of commercial litigation matters, including securities, contracts, product liability, fraud, employment, antitrust, and consumer class actions. She also has assisted with appeals to several federal appellate courts. Additionally, Mandy has experience in corporate bankruptcy and bankruptcy-related litigation. She has represented debtors, secured and unsecured creditors, lenders, and other interested parties in bankruptcy and adversary proceedings. She has assisted in matters for clients such as Bank of America, ConsumerInfo.com, Dana Corporation, Dell, Kaiser Aluminum Corporation, and Southern Company.
Most recently, Mandy worked on the team defending a major computer technology manufacturer and distributor, including certain of its senior executives and board of directors, against claims that the company and individual defendants violated sections 10(b), 20(a), and 20A of the Securities Exchange Act as well as derivative lawsuits and a SEC investigation resulting from those claims. In particular, Mandy was tasked with helping prepare trial testimony for certain of the company's senior executives. Further, Mandy was charged with overseeing the data preservation, collection, and forensic analysis with respect to this client. In that capacity, she has acted as an advisor and liaison for in-house counsel, communicating with outside counsel and e-discovery teams at FTI Consulting, Kroll Ontrack, and KPMG Forensic Technology Services. Moreover, she frequently speaks and advises on topics related to e-discovery.
Mandy is actively involved in the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers as well as the Dallas Bar Association. She is co-chair for the Ask-A-Lawyer Committee (which produces the Pro Se Handbook series) of the DAYL for 2009-2010. In the past, she has served as vice chair for the Federal Opinions Committee of DAYL.
In 2008, Mandy was honored to serve as Jones Day Dallas's first Lend-A-Lawyer at the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program. In that capacity, she worked full time for DVAP for three months, taking on cases at various stages of litigation, including pleading, discovery management, dispositive motion practice, settlement negotiation and mediation, trial preparation, and trial. She regularly appeared, and continues to appear, in state court on behalf of her pro bono clients.
The highlight of Mandy's time at DVAP was helping reunite a mother with her kidnapped child. It was this experience that led Mandy and Jones Day Partner Jerre Doak to collaborate with DVAP to allow Jones Day Dallas to exclusively handle writ of habeas and writ of attachment cases related to children that come through DVAP's legal clinics. Mandy continues to be actively involved with DVAP, where she represents pro bono clients in civil matters as well as helps staff the South Dallas, Prove-up, and Wills clinics.
Mandy is also one of the founding members of the Jones Day Dallas Associate Pro Bono Committee. This committee has partnered with several of the pro bono service providers in Dallas to help staff emergency pro bono cases with Jones Day partners and associates.
In her spare time, Mandy volunteers as a crisis counselor at the Suicide and Crisis Center of Dallas.
