James Black's practice focuses on general corporate and securities matters. In the past, he also handled intellectual property matters, including patent and trademark litigation, and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulatory compliance for medical device and other life sciences companies.

James joined Hogan & Hartson in 2004 after a federal district court clerkship. Previously, he managed a company that manufactured custom guitar electronics.

James has an M.A. in Anthropology, with an emphasis on Biological Anthropology.
