Lawyer Overview

James G. Lare focuses his practice on aviation, products liability, and complex commercial litigation matters.

As a member of the firm's Aviation Litigation Practice Group, Jim represents aircraft operators, aerospace component manufacturers, and airports in the defense of significant liability claims. He has experience in all facets of commercial and general aviation and, in his practice, advises aviation and aerospace clients on commercial transactions, contracts with customers, issues arising from the sale of aircraft, and international law. He also counsels clients on compliance with federal aviation regulations.

Jim also has significant experience in products liability and complex commercial litigation. Prior to joining the firm, he was a member of litigation teams responsible for the defense of pharmaceutical companies involved in multidistrict litigation. His present commercial practice involves representing businesses involved in contractual disputes, including lawsuits involving the sale of goods under the Uniform Commercial Code.

After graduating from Widener University School of Law with high honors, Jim clerked for the Honorable Juan R. Sanchez of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Prior to entering private practice, he was a pilot for a major commercial airline and holds an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate and Gold Seal Flight Instructor Certificate.

Significant Representative Matters:

  • Successful defense and trial, in conjunction with national counsel for a major manufacturer and distributor of helicopters, of claims for substantial personal injuries and property damage arising out of the crash of a helicopter that was declared a total loss. Before opening statements, the court granted significant pre-trial evidentiary rulings in the client's favor, and, at the end of trial, the jury returned a defense verdict on a stipulated seven-figure claim for the value of the helicopter.

  • Successfully moved for partial summary judgment on behalf of an air cargo facility, arguing that an international treaty reduced plaintiff's claim for valuable pharmaceuticals from well over seven figures to less than $40,000.
