Lawyer Overview
Michael Kramer is an associate with Foley & Lardner LLP and a member of the firm's Intellectual Property Litigation and Mechanical & Electromechanical Technologies Practices.
Mr. Kramer has experience in both intellectual property litigation and counseling, including patent litigation, patent prosecution, and freedom to operate analyses. He has also worked with clients in mergers and acquisitions to assess intellectual property assets. Mr. Kramer is experienced in all aspects of patent litigation, including multidistrict litigation, federal jury trial and appellate practice, in diverse fields such as software, electronics, communications, HVAC systems, and financial business methods. Mr. Kramer has also counseled clients and obtained patent protection for clients in a variety of technical areas, including alternative energy, nanotechnology, medical devices, electronic display mounts, consumer goods, household products and apparel.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Kramer developed technical experience as an engineer for nearly ten years with Motorola, Inc. and Los Alamos National Laboratory in the consumer electronics, wireless communication, and mechanical design and materials fields. He has led several successful Six Sigma projects, including projects related to patent portfolio management, and managed a research laboratory. Mr. Kramer participated in the summer associate program with Foley and was a judicial extern with Judge Ronald A. Guzman for the Northern District of Illinois.
Mr. Kramer is an adjunct professor of Law at Loyola University Chicago School of Law where he teaches Intellectual Property Appellate Advocacy. Additionally, he has published on the topic of patent portfolio analysis and valuation and is a co-inventor of a United States Patent and pending patent applications. He is also a member of the Richard Linn American Inn of Court and the American Bar Association.
Mr. Kramer received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University, his master's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of New Mexico and his law degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law (magna cum laude). At Loyola, Mr. Kramer was a Chicago Intellectual Property Colloquium Fellow and selected as a member of the Loyola Law Journal.
Mr. Kramer is admitted to practice in Illinois and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
