Phillip S. Simon was born in 1950. He is married with two children and lives in the Mt. Lebanon section of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He earned a BA degree from the University of Virginia in 1972 and his law degree from Western New England College in 1982. He was admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and the United States District Court in 1982, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in 1986 and the United States Supreme Court 1992. Prior to entering private practice on his own in 1995, he practiced law for nine years in the firm of Simon & Simon, with his father, an attorney with 33 years experience at Reed, Smith, Shaw, McClay and past chairman of the Allegheny County Bar Association's Section on Bankruptcy and Commercial Law. They concentrated on litigation matters, half of which were in bankruptcy court. After working with his father, he joined a creditor's firm, Davis Reilly, P.C. (1992-1995), largely handling bankruptcy litigation and appellate work. He has wide experience representing debtors, creditors and creditor's committees. In the past he has represented Mellon Bank, N.A, Dollar Bank, United States National Bank of Johnstown, Chrysler Credit Corporation, Uniden Corporation, the City of Lock Haven, Keystone Central School District and the City of Monessen in bankruptcy proceedings. He has experience in large bankruptcy cases including the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Company, Sharon Steel and the Pittsburgh Food and Beverage Company, Inc., bankruptcies. His litigation experience includes appellate experience in all levels of State and Federal courts and he has successfully argued a bankruptcy case before the Supreme Court of the United States.
