Lawyer Overview

Prior to joining Jones Day in 2006, Yan Gao was legal counsel of Shell (China) Limited/Shell Exploration and Production Company Limited for several years, where she was involved in heavy investment in the energy sector in China. Her extensive experience includes exploration, development, and production of onshore and offshore oil and natural gas, downstream retail, coal, power, LNG, and unconventional resources.

Yan recently advised on:

• a joint natural gas development project in the Ordos Basin with PetroChina

• a joint natural gas project in the East China Sea comprised of five petroleum contracts with CNOOC and Sinopec

• the farm out of a petroleum development project in Bohai Bay

• the negotiation of a deepwater petroleum exploration opportunity in the South China Sea and

• the negotiation of EPC and financing transaction for a coal gasification joint venture in Hunan Province.

Yan's practice also covers a wide range of corporate and commercial transactions, including foreign direct investment projects, mergers and acquisitions, procurement, capital markets, and employment law.

She is fluent in Chinese (Putonghua) and English.
