Law Firm Overview

Dwaine M. Massey, founder of the Massey Law Firm, PLLC, represents plaintiffs and defendants in complex business litigation and serious personal injury cases. Prior to forming the firm, he spent three years with a successful litigation boutique specializing in high stakes commercial litigation, generally for the plaintiff. While there, he worked on numerous commercial and business litigation cases, including class actions, Securities and RICO matters for individual and corporate plaintiffs.

Starting his legal career with Vinson & Elkins, Mr. Massey represented both plaintiffs and defendants in complex business and personal injury litigation involving millions of dollars. While there, he represented some of the firm's major health care, accounting, insurance and oil and gas industry clients.

Before law school, Mr. Massey worked as a Certified Public Accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers. His financial background makes him well-suited to handle complex commercial litigation. His background enables him to decipher financial data, cut through complicated transactions, and analyze financial information in order to evaluate commercial claims and prepare them for trial in an efficient, cost-effective manner. His keen understanding of financial information is extremely useful in his personal injury cases as well.

Representative Matters

• Obtained non-discharge of debts in bankruptcy proceedings and represented judgment creditors in bankruptcy courts in Houston and Corpus Christi.
• Successfully prosecuted counterclaims on behalf of commercial explosives maker in a civil antitrust case.
• Obtained a favorable settlement for a Big 5 accounting firm against claims of malpractice arising from the purchase of a residential mortgage portfolio.
• Obtained a favorable settlement for a jet ski manufacturer in a consumer fraud class action.
• Obtained dismissal of claims against an oil and gas producer in a royalty owner class action.
• Obtained a take-nothing arbitration award for a securities firm in a defamation action brought by a stockbroker.
• Successfully prosecuted breach of fiduciary duty and fraud claims against former officers and directors of a multinational corporation.
• Obtained summary judgment for individual defendants in a defamation and wrongful death action.
• Obtained a summary judgment for a major hospital before state trial court in a personal injury lawsuit and successfully argued the appeal.
• Obtained summary judgment in numerous breach of contract actions in state and federal court.
