Dr. David Chavous is a senior associate in the firm's Intellectual Property Department. He joined the firm in 2004.

Practice

Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Chavous was an associate at Global Prior Art, where he classified patents for medical devices and performed patent attribution. He also researched prior art regarding patent infringement and conducted freedom-to-operate patent searches at the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

At Boston College Law School, Dr. Chavous was the recipient of the Rita Q. and Robert Tobin Scholarship for Intellectual Property Law. While pursuing his Ph.D. degree at Boston College, he was the recipient of the 2001 Boston College Outstanding Graduate Student Award and the 1999 Boston College Teaching Award.

Community Involvement

Dr. Chavous served as a graduate student representative to the Boston College Graduate Student Association from 1997 to 1998. In that capacity, he introduced initiatives designed to increase health care benefits for graduate students at the university. Additionally, he provided volunteer tutoring services to Newton area high school students in biology and chemistry.
