Brad Bedingfield is a senior associate in the Private Client Practice Group. He joined the firm in 2005.
Practice
Mr. Bedingfield provides a broad range of services to individual clients and their families including preparation of wills, trusts and other estate planning documents; advice regarding family investment vehicles, such as Family Limited Partnerships (FLPs) and Family Limited Liability Companies (FLLCs); and development and implementation of strategies for lifetime asset transfers designed to minimize transfer taxes, such as Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts (GRATs), charitable trusts, and sales to irrevocable grantor trusts. Mr. Bedingfield represents company founders, venture capitalists and other entrepreneurs in different stages of development, and advises them about estate planning strategies. His representation of clients also includes planning for and implementing US and foreign ownership and management structures.
Mr. Bedingfield also works closely with not-for-profit organizations in every stage of development. He has assisted both individuals and corporate entities in establishing charitable foundations, preparing and updating not-for-profit corporate documents and governance policies, prosecuting cy pres and deviation proceedings, and effecting tax efficient terminations of charitable entities.
While in law school, Mr. Bedingfield served as an intern to The Honorable Judge Jed S. Rakoff of the Southern District of New York.
Prior to his legal studies, Mr. Bedingfield was a lecturer in English Language and Literature at Tokyo Metropolitan University, Rikkyo University (Tokyo), Oxford University and the University of Connecticut. He also worked as a freelance editor for the third edition of the Oxford English Dictionary.
