Practice
Mr. Bayer has experience working on a variety of litigation matters, particularly in the areas of products liability and securities litigation. Mr. Bayer has extensive experience defending pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers against products liability claims. He also has experience representing clients in a variety of industries in securities class actions and in investigations relating to allegedly improper accounting practices.
Most recently, Mr. Bayer has been involved in defending a major pharmaceutical manufacturer in more than 2,700 Massachusetts products liability cases arising out of the use of diet drugs, and in defending a medical device manufacturer against claims arising out of allegedly defective defibrillators. He is also currently involved in defending a major pharmaceutical manufacturer in parallel civil and criminal government investigations relating to its marketing practices.
At Cornell Law School, Mr. Bayer was a research assistant to Professor Stephen Yale-Loehr and was involved in the update and editing of Immigration Law and Procedure, a leading immigration law treatise. He was the recipient of the Kastowitz Prize of Excellence in Legal Writing and Oral Advocacy. At Dartmouth College, Mr. Bayer received high honors for his thesis on nuclear deterrence between China and the United States. He was also a recipient of the Nelson A. Rockefeller Prize for the best international relations thesis. As an intern with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Division of Legal Affairs in 1999, Mr. Bayer assisted with legal research and writing in a variety of mining and land-use cases.
Community Involvement
Mr. Bayer served as a volunteer emergency medical technician (EMT) for eight years with the Town of Newburgh Volunteer Ambulance Corps. in Newburgh, New York. He was also a volunteer firefighter and EMT with the Cayuga Heights Fire Department in Ithaca, New York from 2001 to 2004, and served as the department's assistant rescue director in 2003.
