Thomas (“Tucker”) F. Clauss, Jr. is a partner in the firm’s Stamford office. He joined Wiggin and Dana in 2005 and is a member of the Litigation Practice Group.

Tucker focuses his practice on the prosecution and defense of complex corporate, commercial, pharmaceutical, banking, securities, and insurance litigation. He has tried and arbitrated numerous cases and he has also served as general counsel to a pharmaceutical company and as a special master in the federal courts.

Representative assignments include:

• Defending pharmaceutical company and its principal shareholders in Section 16(b) derivative suit involving the purchase and sale of generic biopharmaceutical company
• Prosecuting trade secret and breach of contract case for consumer products company involving misappropriation of design work by a retained consultant
• Prosecuting breach of contract case for a U.S. manufacturing company against an international design, engineering and manufacturing firm for its failures to design and produce custom machinery in accordance with agreed upon specifications
• Defending ERISA trustees, plans and administrators in arbitral and judicial procedings involving claims for benefits and claims handling procedures
• Defending parts manufacturer against distributor’s claims of wrongful termination of distributorship
• Representing consumer products company in false advertising and Lanham Act matters
• Defending real estate developer and limited partnership in dispute about proceeds of sale of partnership property
• Defending publishing company in age discrimination case
• Conducting two-month long internal investigation of sexual harassment and financial fraud at U.S. subsidiary of international pharmaceutical company
• Acting as national counsel for international manufacturer of dehumidifiers on series of toxic tort cases
• Defending foreign automobile manufacturer in threatened class action concerning its products and marketing practices
• Defending foreign governmental entities in breach of contract case arising out of ownership and operation of mining operations
• Prosecuting case against defaulting guarantor of loans for multiple golf courses
• Prosecuting case against defaulting borrower on behalf of national bank and seeking temporary receiver for property securing loans
• Representing beneficiary against international bank that dishonored draw under letter of credit
• Defending international pharmaceutical company in licensing dispute with joint venture partner
• Defending international pharmaceutical company in dispute arising out of merger with another pharmaceutical company
• Defending animal health care company in dispute arising out of acquisition of vaccine business
• Defending excess insurance carrier in multi-party complex environmental insurance coverage action
• Prosecuting coverage case for policyholder against carrier who had declined to pay defense costs for claim brought against directors and officers
• Prosecuting employment practices coverage claim on behalf of policyholder against carrier
• Representing real estate developer in unfair trade practice case
• Prosecuting several trade secret cases against former employees of publishing company

Tucker received his J.D. from Rutgers Law School magna cum laude and graduated with a B.A. from Yale University.
