Michael R. Houston is an associate with Foley & Lardner LLP in its IP Litigation and Chemical & Pharmaceutical Practices, and is also a member of Foley's Nanotechnology Industry Team.
Dr. Houston's practice focuses on patent litigation at the trial level across a wide array of technology areas. He has litigation experience with software, Internet systems, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, microelectronics fabrication and packaging, electronics, and general chemical processing. Based on his graduate work and multiple years of R&D experience at a start-up company in the Bay Area, Dr. Houston's technical knowledge further encompasses nanotechnology, biotechnology, optics and ophthalmic lenses, polymerization chemistry and polymer processing, composite resins, injection molding, and micromachining.
Dr. Houston has litigated cases in several districts across the U.S., with a particular focus on Texas and the International Trade Commission (ITC), and has taken numerous cases to trial (both jury and bench). Dr. Houston's experience at the appellate level includes appearing before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Dr. Houston is admitted to practice before the USPTO, and dedicates a part of his practice to patent prosecution and counseling.
Dr. Houston is a graduate from the Northwestern University School of Law (J.D., cum laude), the University of California at Berkeley (Ph.D.), and the Georgia Institute of Technology (B.S., summa cum laude).
