Lawyer Overview
Vikas S. Dhar focuses his practice in the areas of entrepreneurial growth matters and business & criminal litigation. In 2009, he was recognized as a "Rising Star" in Massachusetts Super Lawyers/Boston Magazine, an honor awarded to only 2.5% of lawyers in Massachusetts.
Mr. Dhar concentrates his entrepreneurial growth practice on advising business clients at all stages, including structuring, capitalization/shareholder issues, start-up and securities matters, and corporate disclosure, governance and policy issues. His knowledge of policy movements in highly regulated sectors such as media, entertainment, technology, life sciences/biotech, and energy industries provides a significant differentiation to the advice he provides his clients, both in connection with the making of an investment decision as well as in post-investment growth strategies. He works closely with his network of contacts in venture capital and private equity groups to create growth and funding opportunities for his clients.
As business disputes may sometimes arise, or should a corporate or private client face government investigation, Mr. Dhar is known for finding creative and effective solutions. He strives to maintain close working relationships with key government officials, and for many of his clients, the best outcome has been the one the public never hears about - persuading the government not to pursue them. While a behind-the-scenes resolution is often optimal, it is not always possible, so he stands ready to try cases if they reach the public forum. He has represented a broad spectrum of clients in business disputes and criminal matters, including a Royal Prince, CEOs, physicians, attorneys, athletes, and has counseled corporate clients in responding to grand jury subpoenas and internal investigations. Mr. Dhar provides expert assistance to clients who are simultaneously dealing with criminal inquiries and civil matters, administrative investigations or licensure proceedings, including counseling students in university disciplinary proceedings.
Over the course of his career, he has enjoyed a diverse practice, including immigration law and domestic relations. He has lectured and published articles on immigration legislation, and has provided pro bono counsel in domestic violence and political asylum cases. Mr. Dhar is a past recipient of the John Rendleman Award for Outstanding Performance and is a member of the Boston Bar Association, NACDL, AILA, SABA (former member, Board of Directors) and the Washington University Alumni Association.
