Deetta Steinmetz concentrates her practice in the area of family law. Since attaining her law degree in 1987, Ms. Steinmetz has devoted her career to representing clients in dissolution and post-dissolution matters. She has tried dissolution of marriage, child custody, parenting time, child support, relocation, property division and modification cases in most counties in central Indiana. Prior to joining Cohen Garelick & Glazier in 2010, Ms. Steinmetz practiced family law with the Indianapolis firms of Pennamped and Associates and Cohen & Malad. Deetta has an AV Peer Review rating from Martindale-Hubble.
Ms. Steinmetz received her Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in English and Speech Communication from the Honors College at Ball State University in 1984. She received her Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis in 1987.
Ms. Steinmetz is among a small number of Indiana attorneys trained in the practice of Collaborative Law, and is a member of the Central Indiana Association of Collaborative Professionals and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. She has been a registered domestic mediator since 1993. She has served as a lecturer and writer on family law topics at numerous Indiana Continuing Legal Education Forum ("ICLEF") seminars, in addition to being a guest lecturer on family law for undergraduate classes at Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis ("IUPUI"). She previously taught an Introduction to Law class in her role as an adjunct professor for the political science department at IUPUI. Deetta served on the Executive Committee of the Family Law Section of the Indianapolis Bar Association for six years and remains a member of the Family Law Section of the Indianapolis and Indiana Bar Associations.
