Before opening the Law Office of Walter S. Cowger in 2002, I spent 24 years at Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld L.L.C., 15 of those years as a partner, before opting for the freedom of solo practice. Because I do not have the overhead expense of a large law firm, the fees I charge are substantially lower.
Now, I represent Fortune 500 corporations, small businesses, and individuals in employment - related and general business litigation, counseling, ERISA matters, negotiation, and investigations. About 70% of my practice is defense - side. I practice in both state and federal courts, and have handled appeals in the Fifth, Eighth, Ninth and Tenth U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeal. I also handle cases before the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Every year since 2005 I have been named a “Super Lawyer” by Texas Monthly Magazine. Contact the Law Office of Walter S. Cowger today if you need help in any of my employment and business-related practice areas.
Fiduciary Duty: A Commitment to the Client
I think of this approach to law as “old-fashioned lawyering.” That’s because since I became a lawyer 30 years ago, I have understood that a lawyer must put his client's interests before anyone else's, including his own. Lawyers should have an unwavering commitment to fiduciary duty.
While the concept of fiduciary duty has weakened as law practice has become more of a business, I believe a commitment to it is the only way to ensure that clients get the representation they expect and deserve. I represent each client with dedication, diligence, and commitment to the client's case. Contact the Dallas, Texas employment law defense office of Walter S. Cowger, today if you need representation in employment or business litigation.
