Katharine Maddox has experience in all areas of family law, including division of marital property, spousal and child support, custody and visitation, relocation of children as it relates to custody and visitation, and appeals to the Virginia Court of Appeals. In custody matters Ms. Maddox focuses on what is best for the children and she understands that absent unusual circumstances children need both parents in their lives. As part of her practice in domestic relations law, she has worked on many international family law cases with clients from multiple countries. While Ms. Maddox regularly litigates matters and works to settle cases prior to trial, she is also trained in Collaborative law which can benefit many families through the emphasis on privacy and removing the "threat" of litigation from the settlement process.

In 2003, Ms. Maddox was selected to participate in the Judicial Council of Virginia's Solutions Conference, tasked with finding ways to improve the justice system in Virginia. Additionally, she has attended both the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyer's (AAML) Institute for Family Law Associates together with the IAML's Advanced Institute for Family Law Associates which focused on improving client representation including settlement and litigation skills. Ms. Maddox has also attended numerous meetings of the AAML in the U.S. in addition to attending numerous meetings of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (IAML) throughout the world with Marcia Maddox, the principal of the firm, who is a fellow in both organizations.

Ms. Maddox is a contributor to the IAML newsletter and together with Marcia Maddox, planned all aspects of the 2009 US Chapter of the IAML's Spring Conference in San Antonio, Texas including 2 days of Continuing Legal Education courses. Katharine Maddox and Marcia Maddox are presently planning the US Chapter of the IAML's 2010 Spring Conference to be held in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Ms. Maddox also liaisoned with the president of the International Chapter of the IAML in organizing the executive committee meeting for the 2009 conference and the upcoming 2010 conference.

In 2006 Ms. Maddox moved to Rome, Italy where she continued to work part time for The Maddox Law Firm, P.C. assisting with appeals, specifically drafting briefs for submission to the Virginia Court of Appeals. Ms. Maddox returned full time to The Maddox Law Firm, P.C. in early 2008. Prior to her move to Italy, Ms. Maddox was one of the leaders of both the Young Lawyers Association of the Fairfax Bar Association and the Young Leadership Committee of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association (VTLA) and she continues to be involved in legal organizations. Prior to her move to Italy, Ms. Maddox wrote an article on child relocation in Virginia which was published by the VTLA.

Ms. Maddox received her B.A. in psychology at the University of Virginia and her J.D. (with Honors) from The George Washington University, where she served as the Chairperson of the Law School Academic Integrity Committee.

Katharine was included in Strathmore's Who's Who, 2008-2009 edition. Acceptance into Strathmore's Who's Who is limited to individuals who have demonstrated leadership and achievement in their occupation, industry, or profession.

Ms. Maddox enjoys travel, photography, cooking and spending time with her extended family.
