Steven practices intellectual property law with an emphasis on patent procurement, technology transfer, and portfolio management. He assists clients on patent prosecution, licensing negotiation, patent opinion, and global IP strategy. He also conducts IP due diligence in commercial transactions and IP analysis in legal disputes.

Steven has extensive experience in the biotech industry and is familiar with many technical areas, including molecular biology, antibody technology, cancer diagnostics and therapeutics, protein engineering, immunology, neurobiology, and drug formulation and delivery. Before joining Jones Day, Steven worked for many years as an in-house counsel at Genentech, a leading biotech company.

At Jones Day, Steven has been working with clients on IP matters both in the U.S. and in China. He has assisted international clients on obtaining and enforcing their IP rights in China. He also has advised Chinese entities on global IP strategy, offense and defense in IP disputes, and in-house legal operations. His clients range from large multinational companies to entrepreneurs, investment companies, universities, and industry organizations.
