Lawyer Overview

Bob Stephan is a partner in the Firm's Financial Transactions Group. He focuses his practice in the areas of New Markets Tax Credits, public finance and structured finance. During the past two years, he has served as counsel to many regional and national recipients of New Markets Tax Credits, including two of the largest recipients, advising them on all aspects of the New Markets Tax Credit Program and representing them in transactions involving more than $400 million in qualified equity investments.

Bob also regularly serves as bond counsel, underwriter's counsel and issuer's counsel in a wide variety of public finance transactions, including enterprise revenue and general obligation governmental bonds and 501(c)(3) and multi-family housing revenue private activity bonds. During the past three years, he has served as bond counsel in transactions totaling in excess of $2 billion, including financings for the City of Chicago and The Toll Highway Authority of the State of Illinois. Bob has also represented governmental entities and non-for-profit borrowers in negotiating interest rate swaps and other derivative transactions. He is a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers (NABL) and often serves as a panelist at NABL conferences.

Bob has also served as borrower's counsel in a wide variety of structured finance transactions and more traditional credit facilities.
