Lawyer Overview
Richard Whitlow practices in the area of intellectual property law. He has experience in patent litigation involving pharmaceuticals and chiral compounds (Hatch-Waxman ANDA infringement context) as well as software and semiconductor technologies. Richard also has experience in patent prosecution and rendering patent validity opinions.
Prior to joining the Firm, Richard worked in the research lab of Dr. Sepehr Eskandari at Cal Poly Pomona, where he studied cellular membrane proteins involved in selective neurotransmitter transport. His particular area of focus was the function and pharmacology of the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) cell membrane transporters, which he studied using advanced biophysics and molecular biology experimental techniques. He was selected to present his research at the 2002 Experimental Biology Annual Meeting in New Orleans, and his work was published in May 2003 in the Journal of Biological Chemistry. His research offers insight into the role the GABA transporters may play in the treatment of epilepsy and the prevention of brain damage during stroke.
Prior to attending law school, Richard taught physical science (chemistry and physics) at Claremont High School in southern California, where he was actively involved in integrating laboratory technology with science curricula.
Richard is a member of the Orange County Patent Law Association, the Federal Bar Association, the Orange County Bar Association, the Orange County chapter of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, and the Warren J. Ferguson American Inn of Court.
