Lawyer Overview
Peter Trombley's practice is concentrated on regulatory and transactional issues relating to electricity and natural gas industry restructuring (including wholesale and retail markets), electricity transmission, natural gas and oil pipelines, and liquefied natural gas (LNG). Peter represents industry leading pipelines, transmission providers, marketers, aggregators, traders, project developers, and industrial and commercial end-use consumers. He advises clients in contractual and settlement negotiations, before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), and before several state utility commissions, including those of Ohio, Texas, New Jersey, and the District of Columbia.
While earning his law degree, Peter served as the manager of regulatory affairs and as an energy coordinator for a major energy services company. In these roles he advocated company interests in all aspects of power system planning, pricing, and operations. His activities focused on federal and state regulatory matters affecting the retail and wholesale energy markets of electricity and natural gas, including supply management, rate analysis, and customer billing. Peter represented the company in dealings with the FERC; the utility commissions of Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Texas; and several independent system operators (ISOs), including the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and the PJM Interconnection. He was his company's voting member representative to the PJM Interconnection and actively participated in numerous committees and working groups.
He has been a member of the Phi Delta Phi legal honors society since 1997. Peter is a member of the American Bar Association, the Houston Bar Association, and the Energy Bar Association. Prior to joining Jones Day, he practiced energy law with McDermott, Will & Emery in Washington, D.C.
