Lawyer Overview

Christian Staps practices in the area of corporate law, with a special focus on companies in financial difficulties. He has broad experience in domestic and cross-border insolvencies. Among the clients Christian advises regularly are creditors, in particular German and international financial institutions, and companies in financial distress, including their management and shareholders. Christian also represents investors in distressed assets such as nonperforming loans. He has experience in mergers and acquisitions involving transactions in a crisis and an insolvency as well as transactions outside of a crisis.

Recent examples of the numerous insolvency-related mandates Christian has been involved in include the successful representation of a publicly listed U.S. company in litigation with an insolvency administrator regarding a (alleged) shareholder liability case. Christian advised a foreign group of companies on issues related to the insolvency proceedings of its German customer, which was one of the major German insolvency proceedings in 2007. He was also involved in the sale of the 30 percent interest in GETRAG GmbH & Cie KG by Dana Corporation to the Hagenmeyer family.
