Christian Staps practices in the area of corporate law, with a special focus on companies in financial difficulties, and has in-depth knowledge of German, European, and international insolvency laws. He has broad experience advising buyers of businesses from German insolvency administrators and has represented investors in the purchase and subsequent workout of nonperforming loans. Among the clients Christian regularly advises are creditors, including financial institutions and trade creditors, as well as the management and shareholders of companies in distress.

Christian recently was involved in the representation of International Automotive Components Group GmbH in its acquisition of the business of Stankiewicz GmbH and Gimotive GmbH from the German insolvency administrator and the refinancing of a listed German company in financial difficulties. He successfully represented a publicly listed U.S. company in litigation with the insolvency administrator of a German subsidiary regarding an alleged case of shareholder liability.

Christian is the author of several articles on insolvency-related topics.
