Lawyer Overview

Jason Chen's practice focuses on Taiwan-related IP disputes, with an emphasis on local patent, trade secret, and unfair competition litigation. He possesses extensive pretrial and trial experience and has successfully represented major high-technology companies based in Taiwan and in the United States.

Jason served as lead counsel and secured a victory in 2008 for China Petrochemical Development Corporation (CPDC). In CPDC v. Celanese, the lower court reversed a USD 34 million award, the second highest amount ever awarded in Taiwan's patent litigation history. He also litigated and won the very first patent infringement case heard by the newly established Taiwan Intellectual Property Court (TIPO). Recently, Jason continued his momentum in TIPO by successfully defending a Taiwan company from a preliminary injunction threat.

Jason served as a Taiwan District Court judge for 10 years adjudicating both criminal and civil cases. In 2002, he became certified as the first professional intellectual property law judge by the Judicial Yuan.

Also, for many years, Jason served on the Intellectual Property Protection and Licensing Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Taipei (AmCham). He has been co-chair of the committee since October 2005.

Since 2006, Jason has served as a member of the Intellectual Property Committee of the National Allied Association of Taiwan Lawyers and was closely involved in the proposed amendment of the Patent Law and Trade Mark Law. He also was elected as director of the IP Law Committee of the Taipei Bar Association in 2008.
