Law Firm Overview

Opened in 2004, Jones Day’s newest California office has more than 35 professionals. We are strategically located in Carmel Valley and staffed to serve San Diego’s dynamic, entrepreneurial, and fast-growing center for the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, renewable energy, telecommunications, software, and information technology industries.

The San Diego Office initially focused on providing patent strategy and portfolio management for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Today, the office boasts full service intellectual property, labor and employment, corporate, and litigation practices. Our lawyers litigate patent and trade secret disputes; negotiate joint venture, strategic alliance, licensing, and other technology-based commercial transactions; and perform patent due diligence for potential acquirers and investors, such as venture capital firms and other life science companies. The office includes an impressive array of trial lawyers experienced in all aspects of litigation in federal and state courts. These litigators focus upon a wide range of practice areas for which Jones Day is renowned: commercial litigation; product liability and mass tort defense; class actions; labor and employment law; and government civil and criminal investigations, including white collar defense, qui tam, and whistleblower litigation.

The San Diego Office, together with the Firm's four other California offices, also provides all of the corporate legal services that an established public or private company or entrepreneur; emerging company; angel fund; venture capital fund; or other acquirer, investor, or seller may need, and represents local, national, and international funds and companies in a variety of M&A, venture, and other corporate transactions. Through Jones Day’s One Firm Worldwide approach, our San Diego attorneys are integrated into our global organization of more than 2,500 lawyers. This affords our clients seamless access to substantial legal resources wherever needed, whether in San Diego, California, the United States, or internationally.

While committed to our global presence and our growth throughout California, we are just as committed to San Diego. We provide pro bono services through Casa Cornelia, SDVLP, and SDCBA, and support a number of San Diego civic, cultural, and non-profit organizations like CONNECT, UCSD, BioCom, San Diego Opera, Helen Woodward Animal Center, Walden Environment, and the American Cancer Society.
