Lawyer Overview

Fernando Lillo's practice is concentrated on Spanish electricity markets and related areas of lending and structured financing projects as well as general counseling. He also advises clients in infrastructure projects.

Fernando has broad experience dealing with structured financing of renewable energy (wind parks, mini hydraulic plants, and biomass and cogeneration plants as well as solar and thermal plants) and infrastructure projects (toll roads, highways, and hotels) both locally and abroad. His experience encompasses all types of credits, loans, and securities in project, corporate, acquisition, and asset financing. Representative clients in recent public matters include the following financial institutions: Banco Español de Crédito, S.A.; ABN AMRO Bank N.V., Spanish Branch; Banco Santander; Caixanova; Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, S.A.; Espírito Santo Investment, Spanish Branch; Instituto de Crédito Oficial (ICO); and the domestic electric utility Unión Fenosa, S.A. In addition, he advises local and international promoters in the renewable energy sector on acquisitions and project finance.

Prior to joining Jones Day in 2003, Fernando worked in the Madrid office of Landwell (a member law firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers) and Garrigues & Andersen (a former member law firm of Andersen Worldwide) for six years. He has been a member of the Madrid Bar Association since 1995.

Fernando is frequently asked to speak on energy-related financing projects and writes on renewable energy matters for the specialized press. He is mentioned in the project finance practice category in Chambers Global — The World's Leading Lawyers 2008.
