Lawyer Overview

Sébastien Evrard is a senior Associate in the antitrust and government regulation areas, with a particular focus on media and IP-related industries.

Most recently, Sébastien has represented Apple Inc. in a series of competition law matters including the Sony/BMG merger, the European Commission's iTunes investigation, and in the VirginMega case in which the French Competition Council rejected a claim that Apple was abusing its dominant position by refusing to license its DRM. Other representative clients include Abbott Laboratories, Société Européenne des Satellites, and NBC Universal. In addition, Sébastien represents fixed and mobile operators in proceedings before Belgian courts involving termination rates and the use of SIM boxes.

Prior to joining Jones Day, Sébastien practiced law in Brussels and New York, handling all aspects of intellectual property (copyright, trademarks, patents, databases) and information technology (computer law, privacy, computer crime, e-commerce). Sébastien has published several articles related to intellectual property and information technology. His latest article "Essential Facilities in the European Union: Bronner and Beyond" has been published in the Columbia Journal of European Law. In addition, while earning his master's degree at Columbia University, Sébastien was elected a James Kent Scholar (highest honor) and was awarded the Walther Gelhorn Prize for the highest graduating academic average.
