Lawyer Overview

Lena Bacani's practice focuses on patent, trademark, trade secret, and copyright litigation in state and federal courts. She also has significant experience drafting and negotiating intellectual property agreements, such as technology transfer, software, and motion picture contracts (including writer, director, producer, and investment agreements). Lena frequently counsels clients regarding global patent portfolios and intellectual property assets for acquisition and litigation due diligence.

Lena represents clients in a wide range of industries, including aerospace, consumer electronics, motion picture and television entertainment, medical devices, and biotechnology. Representative clients include Cardiac Science, Cherry Sky Films, DIRECTV, Freestyle Semiconductor, Genentech, Hughes Aircraft Company, Motorola, Trinity Networks, and VIZIO.

Prior to joining Jones Day, Lena worked as a systems engineer for Lockheed Martin where she managed system requirements and provided technical support for the Air Force Satellite Control Network and several satellite program offices responsible for space defense, communications, and surveillance. While at Lockheed, Lena drafted interface requirements documents and satellite program transition plans. She was granted secret clearance from the Department of Defense.

Lena lectured on intellectual property issues for the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics in January 2009. She is author of "At the Crossroads of Law and Technology," 33 Loyola L.A. L. Rev. 1099 (2000) and was a speaker and program panelist at the Second Annual "At the Crossroads Program for Law and Technology" sponsored by the California Institute of Technology and Loyola Law School of Los Angeles in the fall of 2000.
