Derek E. Barrett is a 1991 graduate of New York Law School where he won awards for evidence and constitutional law. Desiring a career in trial work, he joined the New York City Corporation Counsel's office, where he rose to the position of Senior Tort Trial Specialist in the Trial Division and, in this capacity, he defended the City of New York and its agencies in a multitude of actions which ranged from trip and fall cases to Labor Law claims, actions for false arrest and malicious prosecution, automobile accidents, and even a suit involving an illegal autopsy. Mr. Barrett has taken approximately 40 jury verdicts, several of which have been published. One case, involving a police shooting, was based upon a particularly sensitive and much publicized event.
