Lawyer Overview
Jeffrey Raskin has always felt a need to question, analyze, and interpret. Except when his parents responded by taking away Nintendo for a week, this inclination has served him well. When Jeffrey moved to Washington, D.C. to attend Georgetown University Law Center, his love of questioning evolved into a love of the law. Washington was an amazing place to study law enveloped by the city's majestic architecture and among the resources of the federal government itself. Jeffrey began each academic year with a pilgrimage to view the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. He soon developed a reputation as that guy who studies law on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. When not spending time with Abe, Jeffrey spent many mornings watching arguments before the United States Supreme Court. During his final year, Jeffrey joined Georgetown's Appellate Litigation Clinic, where he argued (and won) before the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in a case addressing the intersection of the First Amendment and the Privacy Act. From that point, Jeffrey was hooked on appellate law.
After law school, Jeffrey clerked for the Honorable Raymond C. Fisher of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Jeffrey found the clerkship to be an amazing opportunity to develop his analytical and writing skills, to learn from an accomplished mentor, and to observe the inner workings of the court as it addressed issues ranging from the scope of the Second Amendment to the constitutionality of the Pledge of Allegiance.
Following his clerkship, Jeffrey spent four years as a litigator with O'Melveny & Myers LLP. In 2006, Jeffrey joined GMSR to pursue his love of appellate law. Outside of his practice, Jeffrey is passionate about travel, photography and exploring nature. It's not a real vacation unless you are trekking across a glacier with an ice ax, hiking to within inches of a lava flow, or meeting wildlife eye-to-eye. Jeffrey is also an avid chef, who enjoys developing new recipes to tantalize the palates of his wife, Christina, and their friends.
