One impact of this trend has been the erosion of the employer / employee relationship as corporations have sought to more efficiently and effectively manage their biggest expense and biggest risk: employees.

At the same time, the workplace has become increasingly sophisticated as a result of the proliferation of laws designed to protect employees and their families from employer abuse. Employers now have to contend with far more limitations on their right to hire, compensate, manage, discipline and terminate their employees.
