Summary

Law Firm Overview

George J. Oltsch set up his office in 1895 in South Bend, Indiana. His first patent issued for a horse collar pad on February 23,1897 under number 577,465. George prospered and hired a young lawyer, Eugene (Gene) Knoblock. He began to teach the younger lawyer how to practice law. He also taught Gene that to succeed he must provide good service to clients. George taught that good service is meeting the client's needs through competent and timely representation and advice, by anticipating a client's problems and then providing solutions useful to a client's success. Gene received his first patent on October 20, 1936. As the firm of Oltsch and Knoblock prospered, George Oltsch retired and Gene Knoblock hired another lawyer, a Purdue graduate with a degree in mechanical engineering. James David Hall was fresh from the Navy's JAG Office. His Naval experience had not prepared him for a career in intellectual property. Gene Knoblock filled in the gaps, and Jim's first patent issued on November 1, 1968. The firm eventually became known as Oltsch, Knoblock and Hall, and the legacy of the firm's approach to service was once again passed to the next generation.

That legacy continues to this day.Though the focus of the firm has expanded and the name has changed, the lawyers at Botkin & Hall, LLP continue to build on the efforts of Oltsch, Knoblock and Hall. The faces may have changed over the last 100 years, but the mission of the lawyers at Botkin & Hall, LLP is essentially the same - to provide timely, competent representation and advice, to anticipate a client's problems and then provide solutions useful to the client's success. The services now provided start with our roots in intellectual property and have expanded to include a full menu of services related to the needs of twenty-first century inventors and entrepreneurial businesses.
