The recipient of Mexican American Bar Association's Attorney of the Year 2003, Mr. Diamante practices immigration, criminal defense and civil rights advocacy in Los Angeles, California. A graduate of U.C. Berkeley and Loyola Law School, Mr. Diamante has clerked for the California Department of Justice, Attorney General's Office, Los Angeles City Attorney's Office, and California Superior Court, Central District.
Mr. Diamante maintains a private practice in downtown Los Angeles and is presently immigration counsel for the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles. He is member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, Mexican American Bar Association, American Bar Association and the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). He is a Board member of the Mexican American Bar Association and has been chair of its immigration and committee against the unauthorized practice of law (UPL). Mr. Diamante is also on the AILA national committee against UPL.
Mr. Diamante is a volunteer board member of the Citizens Against the Unauthorized Practice of Law (CAUPL) a non-profit organization with the purpose of hindering "Immigrant Consultant fraud" through the civil enforcement of the California Immigration Consultant and Paralegal Act. This organization has successfully sued numerous individuals that have provided misguided advice to many vulnerable immigrants.
Mr. Diamante has been a volunteer guest speaker for various community-based organizations, churches and the Los Angeles Unified School District. He has also been featured on numerous television and radio programs both in English and Spanish to discuss contemporary immigration issues, the prevention of immigration fraud and the enforcement of the law.
In 2002, Mr. Diamante gained additional notoriety when he defended pro bono and won an asylum case for Alex Sanchez, a Salvadoran, former gang-member turned activist. Mr. Sanchez was nearly deported because he was outspoken against the corruption within the Rampart Division of the Los Angeles Police Department.
In February, 2003, the Mexican American Bar Association of Los Angeles granted Mr. Diamante the prestigious, "Attorney of Year" award.
