Lawyer Overview

Joe Beauchamp focuses his practice on intellectual property matters, particularly in litigation and client counseling. Joe's litigation experience includes direct and cross-examination of witnesses at trial. He also has successfully argued and defended against requests for emergency relief, including motions for temporary restraining orders and motions for preliminary injunctions. In addition, he has successfully argued patent claim construction and summary judgment motions before various courts across the United States.

Joe regularly advises clients regarding the procurement, management, and licensing of intellectual property assets. He has prepared patent and trademark applications as well as opinions regarding patent infringement and patent validity.

Joe's experience covers a broad spectrum of technologies, including chemical, electrical, and mechanical products and processes used by oil companies and oil field service companies; polymers; coal extraction and processing; computer hardware and software; printers; medical devices; cellular telephones; consumer products, including watches, candles, cosmetics, shampoos, and air fresheners; and ceiling fans and light fixtures.

From 2006 through 2009, Joe has been named as a "Texas Rising Star," a select group of attorneys chosen by Texas Super Lawyers, Law & Politics magazine, and the publishers of Texas Monthly. In addition, Joe has authored articles and spoken at conferences on various issues of intellectual property law.

Prior to attending law school, Joe was an engineer for a division of ABB Ltd., one of the world's largest power companies. Joe is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Houston Intellectual Property Law Association, where he currently serves on the board of directors.
