Lawyer Overview
Robert Hoff is an associate in the firm's White Collar Defense, Investigations & Corporate Compliance Practice Group and the Litigation Department. He is also a member of the firm's eDiscovery and Electronic Data Practice Group.
In white collar matters, Robert has represented individuals and corporations in civil and criminal matters before the Securities and Exchange Commission and the United States Department of Justice. Robert was part of the trial team that represented a CVS executive who faced 23 felony counts related to an alleged scheme to bribe a Rhode Island state senator. After a month-long trial in federal court in Rhode Island, the jury acquitted the executive on all counts. Robert has also represented individuals in matters involving allegations of insider trading and accounting fraud. He has represented companies in diverse matters, including a "Big Four" accounting firm during the government's industry-wide investigation of finite reinsurance products and the government's investigation of stock options backdating. He has also conducted internal investigations, including an investigation relating to a bank president's alleged fraud and an investigation relating to an alleged bribery scheme.
In addition, Robert has worked on numerous commercial litigation matters. He has defended "Big Four" accounting firms in federal and state courts; he has represented an insurance company in a nationwide class action; and he has defended a defamation action between a commercial landlord and tenant.
Robert has fully briefed and argued a pro bono matter before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Following law school, Robert clerked for the Honorable Robert J. Ward in the United States District Court, Southern District of New York. Before joining Wiggin and Dana, Robert worked at a New York law firm, where he practiced securities litigation, commercial litigation and white collar defense.
Robert received his B.A. in political science from Binghamton University and graduated magna cum laude from Brooklyn Law School, where he was a Prince Merit Scholar and Associate Editor of the Brooklyn Law Review. He was also a member of the moot court team that won First Prize in the National First Amendment Moot Court Competition.
