Clare Bracewell Schmitt is a senior associate in the firm's Regulatory and Government Affairs and Securities Departments, and a member of the Financial Institutions Practice Group. She joined the firm in 2002.

Practice

Ms. Schmitt's practice focuses primarily on financial services and bank regulatory work, where she counsels clients on compliance with the rules, regulations and guidance of the Federal Reserve Board (FRB), the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS) and the State banking and financial regulatory agencies.

Ms. Schmitt has represented financial institutions, boards of directors and individual officers and directors in supervisory and enforcement matters before the federal banking agencies and the SEC. She has also represented clients concerning inquiries brought by Attorneys General of numerous states, including New York, and conducted sensitive internal investigations for financial institution clients.

Ms. Schmitt has advised clients in a number of regulatory areas including the nature and extent of permissable activities, anti-money laundering compliance, chartering and licensing. She has also assisted clients in responding to Reports of Examination.
