Michael J. Holston is a partner in the Litigation Practice. His practice is focused on complex civil litigation, primarily defending products liability and consumer fraud class-action lawsuits, and white collar criminal defense litigation.
Mr. Holston has extensive trial experience, having tried more than 40 criminal and civil cases to a jury verdict and more than 20 non-jury trials. He is frequently retained in the latter stages of cases to try jury and non-jury trials.
Mr. Holston handles class-action lawsuits on a nationwide basis. In the past five years, he has handled products liability and consumer fraud class-action lawsuits in more than 15 states in federal and state courts. Recently, Mr. Holston defeated class certification in class-action lawsuits pending in Texas, New Jersey, and California. He also won a defense verdict in a class action jury trial.
Mr. Holston has represented corporations, directors, officers, and other individuals (including elected officials and sitting judges) in cases involving healthcare fraud, political corruption, tax fraud, insurance fraud, bank fraud, securities fraud, environmental crimes, and various other federal and state crimes. He has been involved in investigations initiated by the Department of Justice, other federal agencies, and state attorneys general throughout the country.
Mr. Holston is a former assistant U.S. attorney. He served as a prosecutor in the criminal division of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Holston taught a trial advocacy course at Villanova University School of Law for 12 years and currently teaches and lectures on trial advocacy for the National Institute of Trial Attorneys. He remains active in various charitable organizations throughout the Philadelphia area.
