Senior Counsel

Lawyer Overview

Michael served as Partner-in-Charge of Orrick’s Tokyo and London offices and as Partner-in-Charge of International Offices, resident in Tokyo from 1995 to 2001 and in London from 2001 to 2004. Currently, Michael is senior counsel resident in Orrick’s New York office representing (i) utilities, developers and investors in connection with structuring and financing alternative energy projects, including negotiating and preparing project documentation such as power purchase agreements, operation and maintenance agreements, lease agreements, investment agreements and similar legal instruments, and (ii) governmental issuers and underwriters in connection with the issuance of bonds to finance public projects. Michael's international legal practice focused on (i) finance and investment in energy and complex infrastructure projects located in various countries, including the United States, Japan, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Italy, Hungary, Spain, Portugal and England, and (ii) advising Japanese companies on legal issues relating to a variety of contracts, trading and investment activities throughout the world, including joint ventures, licensing, project development and financing, and with respect to matters or controversies which could result in legal disputes, litigation, arbitration or court action. Michael began the practice of law in 1986 in Sacramento, California, in Orrick's Public Finance Department, representing governmental issuers and underwriters in connection with the issuance of tax exempt debt.
