Lawyer Overview
Dr. Ulrich Mehler is counsel to numerous clients in various areas of intellectual property law. He has extensive experience in patent, copyright, design right, unfair competition, and trademark law especially as it relates to litigious and nonlitigious matters, including contract drafting and prosecution and enforcement of IP rights. His experience includes supporting corporate and M&A transactions. Dr. Mehler is particularly skilled in IP-related litigation, including cross-border enforcement.
Prior to joining Jones Day in 2008, Ulrich was a member of the IP practice group of Baker & McKenzie's Frankfurt office. He also worked for two years as in-house counsel to Bayer AG where he was responsible for the global litigation strategy related to Lipobay/Baycol, a cholesterol-lowering agent. Ulrich also represents clients in administering and enforcing their trademark portfolios.
Ulrich is coauthor of a major treatise on IP law on the German market, commenting on unsolicited marketing, price labeling, and drug advertising. Ulrich is a member of the German Association for the Protection of Industrial Property and Copyright (Deutsche Vereinigung für gewerblichen Rechtsschutz und Urheberrecht e.V. (GRUR)) and the Canadian German Lawyers Association.
