Ya-Chiao Chang concentrates his practice on U.S. patent litigation. He often works in the Firm's New York Office and has worked with intellectual property since 1994.

Ya-Chiao's experience includes litigation in federal courts in California, Delaware, New York, and Texas, as well as the International Trade Commission (ITC). He litigates patents in integrated circuit (IC) design, wireless communications, digital TV, liquid crystal display (LCD), and semiconductors. He defends ViewSonic in an infringement action (C.D. California) and ITC Investigation No. 337-TA-713 initiated by Sony over monitor and TV patents and advises Nuvoton in ITC 713. Ya-Chiao is defending MicroStar and ViewSonic in an infringement action filed by Positive Technologies. In the ITC, he is defending Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company in ITC 729 directed to sub-micron semiconductor technologies.

Ya-Chiao's counseling practice includes China IP and resolution of patent disputes between companies in Asia, Europe, and America. He helped lead Nokia's defense of Qualcomm infringement actions over mobile phone patents in China. He advises clients on injunctive relief, trial, claim construction, customs enforcement, post-trial proceedings, industry standards (GSM and CDMA), patent misuse and exhaustion, reasonable and nondiscriminatory (RAND) royalty, unfair competition, trade secret, and Patent Office proceedings. His practice also includes IP and antitrust counseling in mergers and due diligence review. He advised InnoLux in LCD antitrust issues in forming Chimei InnoLux, the largest merger to date in Taiwan. Prior to law, Ya-Chiao was an electrical and computer engineer with a California company. He frequently lectures on IP in Asia.
