David R. Fields focuses on white collar criminal defense and complex civil litigation. Mr. Fields represents companies and individuals in both federal and state court who are under investigation for a variety of matters, including financial fraud, tax fraud, insider trading, environmental crimes, health care fraud, false statements to regulatory agencies and campaign finance fraud. He represents clients at all stages, from pre-indictment to appeal. He has also assisted companies in internal investigations to uncover wrongdoing. Mr. Fields also has extensive civil litigation experience. His practice includes representation of business and entertainment clients in complex civil litigation matters.

Before joining Akin Gump, Mr. Fields was an assistant U.S. attorney in Los Angeles, where he served as deputy chief of the major crimes section and as domestic terrorism coordinator. During his 10 years at the U.S. attorney's office, Mr. Fields tried numerous cases and successfully briefed and argued matters before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. He was recognized for his outstanding work by the U.S. Department of Justice, the FBI and the Los Angeles Joint Task Force on Terrorism.

Mr. Fields earned his B.A. with high honors in 1984 from the University of California at Berkeley and his J.D. in 1988 from the university's Boalt Hall School of Law. He is a member of the California Bar and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
