Sandra Brown is engaged in patent procurement, opinion work, client counseling, and litigation support. Sandra has experience in obtaining domestic and international patent protection in various fields, such as carbon nanotubes, spectroscopic systems, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), waveguides, microfluidic systems, plasmon-resonant nanoparticles as labels for biological assays, second harmonic generation in molecules for labeling biological assays, self-assembly of protein-based nanostructures, electronic circuit design, magnetic resonance fluid analysis systems, axial-airgap-type electric motors, liquid crystal displays, and mechanical devices.

Sandra's areas of practice also include preparation of invalidity, noninfringement and freedom-to-operate opinions, counseling on patent procurement strategy, due diligence analysis for patent licensing, and litigation support.

While at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sandra conducted research in carbon nanotubes, carbon nanofibers, nanoparticles, conducting polymers, semiconductor materials, and biological physics using spectroscopic and materials characterization techniques. As a postdoctoral member of the technical staff at Lucent Technologies/Agere Systems, Sandra was involved in materials science and physics research into transparent conducting oxides for application in optoelectronic devices, such as modulators. As an undergraduate, Sandra conducted research in nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy of polymer electrolytes.

She is a member of the New York Intellectual Property Law Association and the Sigma Xi Honor Society.
