Lawyer Overview

Mr. Hays is the founding partner of the LAW OFFICES OF GARY MARTIN HAYS & ASSOCIATES. He attended Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, graduating in 1986 with a B.A. in Political Science, and a minor in African-American and African Studies. He then attended the Walter F. George School of Law of Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. Because of his outstanding academic achievements, he was selected as a member of the Mercer Law Review. While at Mercer, Mr. Hays was elected Vice-President of the Student Bar Association. He was also the recipient of the Class of 1977 Scholarship Award. He is licensed to practice in all of the State and Superior Courts of Georgia, the Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of Georgia. He is also licensed in Federal Court before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. He is a Champion Member of the Georgia Trial Lawyers' Association. He is also a Champion Member of the Civil Justice PAC.

When he started practicing law, Mr. Hays worked for a law firm that represented insurance companies. He actually represented the Defendants that caused harm to innocent victims. He soon grew disenchanted working as a Defense Lawyer, so he left to join another law firm.

This law firm represented people with a variety of legal problems - from bankruptcies, to collections, to being injured on the job or in wrecks. This environment did not appeal to him because it pulled the attorney's talents in too many directions.

So in April 1993, he and Duncan Maysilles decided to do something drastically different. They formed a law firm that ONLY represented injured consumers in Georgia. This firm was HAYS & MAYSILLES, P.C.

In December 2000, Duncan Maysilles retired from the active practice of law to pursue another career in academia. Since then, the law firm of GARY MARTIN HAYS & ASSOCIATES continues the fight for injured consumers.

Gary Martin Hays is a very active in fundraising for various charities and organizations. These included Shepard's Spinal Center, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, The U.S. Marine Corps "Toys for Tots" Campaign, The American Cancer Society, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and many others.

The firm has also given away 14 college scholarships, 500 bicycle helmets, and sponsored numerous youth sports teams.

Mr. Hays has been featured as a speaker to other attorneys around the state at the Worker's Compensation Law Institute for Continuing Legal Education.

Mr. Hays was also selected as a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, one of the most prestigious group of trial lawyers in the United States. Membership is limited to attorneys who have won million or multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements.
