Carter DeLorme concentrates his practice in labor and employment relations litigation, dispute resolution, and counseling matters.

Carter has represented clients' interest before the NLRB, EEOC, state employment agencies, dispute resolution organizations, and in federal and state courts involving a wide variety of statutory and contract-based employment matters such as defamation, whistleblower, trade secrets, restrictive covenant, wage and hour, and all manner of discrimination claims. He regularly counsels clients on nonlitigation matters that are impacted by federal and state employment laws as well as matters relating to employee restrictive covenant agreements. He has advised clients on organized labor issues, including union avoidance, union organizing, and election campaign strategies.

Carter also has represented Major League Baseball franchises in a consulting and in a lead trial counsel role with respect to their player salary arbitration concerns. In addition, he has extensive experience in a variety of litigation matters outside of the employment field, including communications, bankruptcy, antitrust, commercial disputes, and other general civil litigation. His recent representative cases include:

• successfully obtained preliminary and permanent injunctive relief on behalf of a large, regional utility company in defamation action against a former employee who was distributing leaflets outside company headquarters

• co-chaired seven-day race, gender, and retaliation jury trial in state court for a regional grocery store chain that is also the largest employer in the county and

• successfully settled a dual forum action for a major international utility company involving a Section 211 whistleblower claim before the NRC and DOL as well as a race discrimination and retaliation claim in federal court in South Carolina.

Carter has given talks to industry groups on labor and employment topics, most recently on disability discrimination cases from the plaintiff's and defendant's perspective, evidence issues in employment cases, and the Family & Medical Leave Act. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the board of trustees of St. Patrick's Episcopal Day School.
