Lawyer Overview

Igor Makarov concentrates on cross-border transactions involving Russia, and he has significant experience in a wide range of transactional and regulatory matters particularly in the energy area. His most recent experience includes representation of Altimo in a $23.8 billion transaction with Telenor to combine their respective holdings in VimpelCom and Kyivstar under VimpelCom Ltd., a new holding company to be listed on the NYSE; Sukhoi Civil Aircraft in connection with its Russian Regional Jet project; TNK-BP in connection with the Kovykta gas project; and Eldorado Group in connection with the formation of the largest retail consumer electronics joint venture in Russia with PPF Group.

From 1999 to 2003, Igor served as general counsel of BP Russia and later was head of the corporate legal department of TNK-BP, where he led the TNK-BP team in negotiating the split of Slavneft and the acquisition by TNK-BP of its 50 percent interest in TNK-TEXACO Lubricants from ChevronTexaco. Prior to his work at BP and TNK-BP, he was in-house counsel with Conoco International Petroleum Company where he was involved in the negotiations of the Shtokman Gas Field PSA with Gasprom on behalf of Conoco, Total, Neste, and Norsk Hydro and represented Conoco in negotiations of the Northern Territories' PSA with LUKOIL.
