Lawyer Overview
Jamie Joiner is an international trade attorney based in Houston, Texas. She advises and represents companies on trade-related matters including compliance with export controls, Customs laws, and other regulations pertaining to international trade. She advises both domestic and foreign companies on U.S. trade laws and regulations, including the following:
- Customs laws and regulations
- Export Administration Regulations (EAR), administered by the Department of Commerce
- International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), administered by the Department of State
- Sanctions regulations, administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)
Ms. Joiner has represented numerous companies before the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC), OFAC, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on penalty actions, seizures, export license applications, ruling and classification requests, protests, and other matters.
Ms. Joiner also has experience in conducting complex international trade compliance audits for large multi-national corporations and has assisted several companies in establishing export and import compliance procedures. She has advised and assisted companies from various industry sectors including aerospace, automotive, petrochemical, electronics, telecommunications and transportation (including freight forwarders and Customs brokers).
As the local coordinator for the Export Legal Assistance Network (ELAN) and as co-chair of the Houston District Export Council, an advisory board consisting of individuals appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Ms. Joiner regularly volunteers her time to help U.S. small businesses with exporting their products and services overseas.
