Senior AttorneyOf Counsel

Lawyer Overview

Trisha M. Morris is a senior attorney, of counsel, limiting her practice to legal research and writing, and oral advocacy in our trial and appellate courts. Ms. Morris has briefed and argued appeals before the Connecticut Supreme and the Appellate Courts, as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. She has briefed and argued a wide variety of issues on the civil side, including questions of insurance coverage, fraudulent conveyances in bankruptcy, asset division in domestic litigation, statutory construction, and Connecticut civil procedure and trial practice. She has also written extensively on matters of state and Federal criminal law. She has written Federal District Court sentencing memoranda and briefs to the Court of Appeals concerning application of the Federal Sentencing Guidelines to drug offenders, cooperating witnesses, and persons convicted of white-collar crimes. Her appellate practice has involved both writing appeals in which other members of the Jacobs firm served as trial counsel, and writing "cold" appeals, from transcript only on cases tried by lawyers from other firms. She has broad experience applying the rules of state and Federal appellate practice to advance the causes of the litigants she represents. A list of decisions in which she has filed briefs or argued appears below.

Ms. Morris graduated summa cum laude from Northeastern University and received her law degree from Northeastern University School of Law in 1995. After graduation, she served as a law clerk to The Honorable Janet Bond Arterton of the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut. Following her clerkship she joined the Jacobs firm as an associate, where she quickly demonstrated both her aptitude and preference for legal research and writing work. In a small, busy litigation practice she also gained hands-on experience in the preparation and trial of civil and criminal cases and was involved on a second-chair basis in a number of significant cases. In the summer of 2006 she left the firm to serve as a Legislative and Administrative Advisor to the Connecticut Department of Correction. She rejoined the Jacobs firm in July, 2007.

Ms. Morris has served on the Federal Grievance Committee for the District of Connecticut. She has also taught legal writing as a teaching assistant at Northeastern University, and as an adjunct instructor in the University of Connecticut Law School Moot Court Program.
