Lawyer Overview

Iain Seow's practice focuses on commercial litigation and arbitration in areas such as banking and finance, insolvency, company and corporate law, employment, financial regulations, intellectual property, international trade, and shareholder and joint venture disputes. He has extensive experience before arbitration bodies such as the CIETAC, HKIAC, ICC, and SIAC.

Iain counsels clients on contentious regulatory issues relating to corporate misfeasance, customs and excise investigations, and money laundering. He is regularly called upon to assist with investigations relating to asset recovery, bribery and corruption, diversion of business, commercial fraud, and intellectual property theft.

Many of his representations involve complex, multijurisdictional, cross-border disputes. His recent work includes acting as Hong Kong counsel for Mattel in connection with congressional investigations related to toys containing trace levels of lead in paint, representing a Taiwanese conglomerate in an ICC arbitration concerning a shareholders' dispute, representing various Asian financial institutions in a series of complex and lengthy litigations related to fraudulent letters of credit, and representing the receivers of a collapsed hedge fund in tracing dissipated assets in Hong Kong and China. Iain is currently acting for a major Southeast Asian bank in litigation involving the enforcement of security in shares of a Philippine public company as well as an international private equity house in securities litigation concerning the placement of publicly listed Hong Kong shares.

Iain speaks and writes regularly on topics relating to arbitration, commercial fraud, corruption, money laundering, and corporate governance. He is also the Recruitment Partner for the Hong Kong Office.
