Lawyer Overview

Shawn Harpen's practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, with an emphasis on the defense of directors and officers in securities class and derivative actions. Shawn has assisted public and private companies, officers, and directors in matters pending before state and federal courts across the country. In addition, she has handled shareholder actions involving considerable cross-border work in European and traditional offshore financial communities. She uses her knowledge of securities laws and litigation experience to advise companies regarding the adoption and implementation of proper corporate governance policies and procedures. In 2008, Shawn was selected as a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, and for the past several years, she has been named one of Los Angeles Magazine's "Southern California Super Lawyers Rising Stars."

Prior to entering the practice of law, Shawn worked in the fields of broadcasting, public relations, advertising, and communications, including positions as a writer/producer and manager of a corporate communications services group for a large, public company. She also has served as an executive director of a nonprofit organization.

Shawn is a member of the American Bar Association, Federal Bar Association, Los Angeles County Bar Association, Orange County Bar Association, Association of Business Trial Lawyers, and Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers. She serves as co-chair of the Professionalism and Ethics Committee of the Orange County Bar Association and was appointed to the State Bar of California's Standing Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct in 2006. She also has been a speaker and contributing author for programs on corporate compliance, securities litigation, professional responsibility, and ethics.
