Andrew D. Morton is an associate at Foley & Lardner LLP. He is a member of the firm's Government & Public Policy Practice.
Prior to joining Foley, Mr. Morton was general counsel & director of government relations at Newdea, Inc., a software development and information technology firm. Previously, he spent seven years with the Government Relations Group at Latham & Watkins LLP, and then served as interim executive director for FilmAid International.
A frequent speaker on immigration reform, international human rights and child refugee issues, Mr. Morton has testified as an expert witness before U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives committees, and has appeared in media outlets such as CBS News, ABC World News Tonight, National Public Radio, the Washington Post and the New York Times. He has lectured on immigration and human international rights issues at numerous law schools and professional conferences, including ABA conventions and the Pro Bono Institute. In 2002, for his extensive legislative advocacy on behalf of refugees and asylum-seekers, Mr. Morton was honored as "Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year" by the D.C. Bar Association, and in 2006, he received the "Outstanding Pro Bono Service" award from the Legal Aid Society.
Mr. Morton has served as a pro bono counsel to Julia Ormond, the U.N. Goodwill Ambassador Against Slavery, and together they are co-founders and members of the board of directors for the Alliance to Stop Slavery & End Trafficking (ASSET). In addition, Mr. Morton serves on the boards of directors for Human Rights USA and the Giving Back Fund, as well as the advisory board for the University of Pennsylvania Law School Public Service Program.
Mr. Morton earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania Law School (2000), where he was a member of the board of editors of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review, co-editor in chief of The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (17 th ed., 2000) and co-chair of the Equal Justice Foundation. In 2007, he received Penn Law's "Alumni Achievement Award" for outstanding contributions to the development of law and the legal profession, and was the 2000 recipient of the Benjamin R. Jones Award for Law and Humanity, the school's most prestigious public interest recognition. Mr. Morton also earned an M.P.P. in international security and economic policy from the University of Maryland School of Public Affairs (2002), and a B.A., magna cum laude, in economics from the University of Maryland (1991).
Mr. Morton is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Maryland.
