Mike's practice focuses on the litigation and trial of patent infringement disputes in federal court and the International Trade Commission as well as other complex commercial disputes. Mike belongs to the Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, and American Bar Associations, including the intellectual property sections and committees within those organizations. In addition, Mike belongs to the American Intellectual Property Law Association (Patent Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution sections) and The Federal Circuit Bar Association (Patent Litigation Committee). Mike served as a solicitor with the W. Edward Sell Chapter of the American Inns of Court from 2002 through 2006.

Prior to joining Jones Day, Mike served as an assistant United States attorney in the Western District of Pennsylvania, where he prosecuted violent offenders in the areas of money laundering, organized crime, child pornography, homicide, narcotics, and firearms. In that role, Mike served as lead attorney on numerous Title III electronic surveillance investigations that involved high-level organized crime, narcotics, and firearms traffickers. Mike served as first-chair trial attorney on many complex jury trials before the courts of the Western District of Pennsylvania.

Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney's Office, Mike worked as an assistant district attorney for Allegheny County as a trial attorney on a wide variety of criminal matters involving assaults, thefts, homicides by vehicle, and similar state criminal offenses. In this role, Mike served as first-chair trial attorney on many jury and nonjury trials before the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.

While with the U.S. Attorney's Office, Mike volunteered to serve with the Special Master's Office of the September 11th Victim's Compensation Fund. Through the U.S. Department of Justice, Mike served as a hearing officer with the Victim's Compensation Fund setting initial awards as well as presiding over hearings concerning the eligibility and award amounts for victims and their families. During this time, Mike worked directly with the victims and their families to ensure that all eligible claimants were fully compensated under the terms of the enabling legislation passed by Congress in the wake of the terrorist attacks on the United States of September 11, 2001.

Mike's current practice includes the pro bono representation of individuals accused of criminal offenses by a variety of state and federal criminal investigative agencies and courts.

Mike has taught as an adjunct professor at the Duquesne University School of Law. Through Duquesne, Mike has participated as an adjunct professor with the Criminal Advocacy Clinic and as an advisor with the trial moot court teams.
